Chief Compliance Officer for Crédit Agricole CIB in the Americas
Mohamed Omarah is a qualified lawyer and has been practicing law in the banking industry for more than 20 years, during which he advised on a wide array of operations such as project finance, trade finance, asset-backed finance, Islamic finance, capital leasing, derivative transactions, loan syndication, capital markets and retail banking.
During his career, he was involved in numerous multi-sourced financings for governmental agencies, ECAs, multinationals as well as commercial and investment banks in the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region. In addition, Mohamed has extensive experience in the field of Islamic Finance and was a board member of the International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM) for 8 years.
Mohamed has worked with the Crédit Agricole Group in the Middle East for more than 15 years during which he held various positions in the legal and compliance departments in Crédit Lyonnais Egypt, Crédit Agricole Egypt, Crédit Agricole CIB Bahrain and Crédit Agricole CIB UAE/DIFC. He also held the position of Senior Legal Counsel at National Bank of Abu Dhabi in the UAE and worked as a finance lawyer in private practice.
Mohamed was previously General Counsel and Regional Head of Compliance for Crédit Agricole CIB in the MEA as well as in charge of Shari’ah Governance globally for Crédit Agricole CIB. This wide-ranging legal and compliance experience gives Mohamed a thorough grasp of business, legal and regulatory environment within the MEA region. Thanks to his experience in interfacing and liaising with international regulators, including the US regulators, he has been appointed Chief Compliance Officer for Crédit Agricole CIB in the Americas in December 2021 responsible for compliance risk management across the Americas (North America and Latin America).
Mohamed holds a Master of Law in International Business Law from the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas, Paris, France.
